Is there anything more arduous and time-consuming than the search for the perfect winter coat? Ok, of course there is, but you get what we’re saying. This year, thanks to lockdown enforcing more time in the great (read: Baltic) outdoors, our winter coat needs to be two things – practical and chic. As socially distanced walks become the only way to see people we love, searches for (and sales of) puffer coats are soaring, but while the cosy factor is undeniable, it’s all too easy to slip into ‘Mountain Warehouse’ territory.

Fear not, Arket has nailed the ‘puffer, but make it fashion’ vibe with its cult long down coat. The duvet-like design first hit shelves last year and quickly became an influencer-fave, spotted on tastemakers Hannah Crosskey, Alexis Foreman and Brittany Bathgate. Now – praise be to the high street Gods – it’s back for another season, and proving to be influencer catnip all over again. Erica Davies, Jessica Skye and We Are Twinset have been cocooning themselves in the gorgeous camel version, but it comes in black too. Not only does it tick the practical and stylish boxes, but it’s also sustainable too, made using recycled down feathers, matte recycled nylon and recycled-polyester yarn from used plastic bottles. If that – and the timeless design – don’t justify the £225 price tag, the hair-saving hood and side slits with popper fastenings (allowing for extra movement and comfort) definitely do.
Add jeans, chunky boots and a jumper then laugh in the face of single figure temperatures.
