I feel ashamed at my behaviour this year. Ashamed about my privileged ignorance with regards to my own casual racism and that when it was brought to my attention, I wasn’t able to stand up, accept my mistakes and learn from them. Ashamed that I tried to hide and that I didn’t confront my wrongdoings directly when I launched a new venture and do the work needed. I am so incredibly sorry to everyone I have hurt, upset and offended this year and fully accept the responsibility that I could – and absolutely should – have been better. I also need to apologise to Gemma for bringing her into this and embarking on a new project before I was ready.
The concerns and issues raised on our platform are valid, important and should have been addressed head-on. For that, and the errors in judgement since launching, I am truly sorry. Please know that this is something I have already learned so much from and that learning will continue.
From The Leopard:
We are not here to make excuses or offer explanations but we do want to acknowledge that the allyship shown here by others has been admirable, inspiring and educating. In light of everything above, we have come to the decision that the best thing to do right now is to step away from this project.
