The Dresses To Shop For The Ultimate Big Collar Energy

11/02/2021 by Hannah Gale

2 Min Read

Last spring it was all about the classic white shirt with a big Peter Pan style collar. Worn under dungarees, worn tucked into jeans, worn with A-line mini skirts, heck, we probably even teamed ours with our beloved tracksuit bottom collection, but this spring? It’s all about the big collar dress.

Whilst some of our faves are from some of the pricier brands on our radar – looking at you KITRI and RIXO – there are some great budget high street styles that’ll look bangin’ whether you team them with Converse for a daily walk in the sunshine or heels for – darewesayit – a night out of the house.

So, without further ado, let us introduce you to the dresses bringing you that big collar energy…

Leopard print and midi length? WHERE DO WE SIGN UP PLZ.

Nasty Gal, £20.

We adore the floaty seventies style shape and the gorgeous shades of blue that would look heavenly teamed with a red lip.

Warehouse, £44.25

The holy grail of big collar energy dresses. One so beautiful we’d probably just hang it on the wall.

Jessie Bush x KITRI, £175

Wear with black tights and chunky boots whilst it’s chilly and just add chunky sandals later this summer.

New Look, £19.49

A dreamy easy-to-throw-on number that will look great dressed up or down.

Glamorous, £45

We adore the ruffles on this hunky big collar dress, and the soft sage colour too.

Monki, £35

You can trust RIXO to smash it out of the park with this beyond-cute leopard mini.

Rixo, £195

A simple style guaranteed to get plenty of warm-weather wear. Also comes in a beige zebra print just FYI.

Monki, £25

This dark gingham print is a great alternative if you’re usually an all-black-everything in your wardrobe kinda gal.

& Other Stories, £56

Almost animal print, but not quite, this simple smock style would look cute with your black biker jacket.

River Island, £40

Because no bouji AF dress round-up is complete with a Sister Jane frock.

Sister Jane at ASOS, £85

New feature today all about our love of Instagram’s favourite interior trend - the half wall. Perfect for kids bedrooms, grown-up bedrooms and living rooms galore. So here, have another photo of the kid’s bedroom (because we’re yet to decorate most rooms in the house 😅 and this one is conveniently a prime example of the infamous half paint job). This is @littlegreenepaintcompany Yellow Pink 🌼🌻✨⭐️ I’ve also included some of our other fave bits of inspo from across Instagram - including dreamy interiors from @charminglifebyjess @renovating_the_broadway @gemellisx and @katespiers 😍😍😍
I may have been a fashion editor for a decade, but I may have been a fashion editor for a decade, but I definitely lost my style mojo after baby no.1 (if I’m honest, two years later I’m still trying to find it)
Lockdown, wearing gym kit for work and not wanting to spend money on maternity clothes I’ll only wear for a few months has meant wardrobe options have been relatively limited this pregnancy, but actually, that’s made life easier. Dungarees are my go-to - these @newlook cord ones have seen me through both pregnancies, my two besties through theirs and even survived an unfortunate ripping incident during the “birthing positions” part of my NCT course 🤣 Adding in a non-maternity top that still fits over bump (I managed to do up about 3 buttons on this @ganni one) is an easy way to make maternity wear feel a bit more “you”. Along with these dungarees and a denim pair I found on @ebay_uk, I’ve lived in @newlook’s leggings - the only ones I could find that didn’t go opaque - @topshop straight maternity jeans (RIP) @hm Mama gym leggings and a couple of dresses from my first pregnancy - mostly @asos maternity or @zara sized up. My maternity wardrobe tips? Look for dresses with easy boob access that you can wear post-pregnancy (I totally failed on this first time round 🤦🏻‍♀️) check out maternity rental sites like @for.the.creators (we have a post on this on site) or shop second hand on @ebay_uk @depop or Facebook marketplace. What are your maternity must-buys?
Just a cheeky bit of midweek nail inspo to either Just a cheeky bit of midweek nail inspo to either copy at home or save for THAT trip to the nail salon in April. You might have noticed in stories that my nails are completely bare at the moment - I had my last set of gels done in October (bright red in case you were wondering). I did a home removal job and tried to wing it through December with a couple of costs of a cheap festive glitter polish but it kept flaking off the same day I painted them 😅 I haven’t bothered using the at-home gel set I have because #twokids but LORD ALMIGHTY will I be glad to look at my hands and see a bright, shiny rainbow mani looking back at me 😭🙌🏼🌈 Hannah x
