At the moment it seems there truly is no wrong Aldi can do – first they launch a velvet scallop bed, then the blush pink cast iron cooking pans, and now? An entire bloody bedroom furniture set made from the interior trend of the moment – rattan. (And that’s before we even get onto the Salted Pretzel chocolate or £3.99 Malbec).
Anyway, the new furniture collection launches this week and some pieces have already dropped online, including a wardobe which is – sob – already sold out. They’re all buy online only, so no scouting them out on the Specialbuys middle aisle this time around.
In the Kirkton House range you’ll find a double bed (£149.99), king size bed (£179.99), a chest of drawers (£99.99), a wardrobe (£129.99), a bed side table (£44.99) and a dressing table and stool (£99.99).
Everything in the collection looks like it’d slot in beautifully in the imaginary Pinterest-famous house we live in in our heads, so we’ve no doubt they’ll look fantastic in your homes too.
And it’s not just Aldi that’s getting in on the seventies-inspired rattan trend either, Habitat recently reported a whopping 3000% increase in customers searching for the term on their website (they’ve got some rattan pieces in their new collection here).
B&M also recently jumped on the craze with a budget black rattan bedroom furniture collection, including bedside tables and a side table with prices from £15.
The other great place to buy bank balance-friendly rattan furniture? Facebook Marketplace. It’s also worth searching for the terms ‘cane’, ‘wicker’ and ‘bamboo’ to hunt out some absolute second-hand steals.
Or, if you want to shop second hand but haven’t got the time or energy to dedicate your life to refreshing an app, House of Rattan is the Instagram shop run by stylist and fashion editor Harriet Davey. She regularly sells her pick of the best furniture (some pieces are upcycled), as well as posts plenty of rattan interior inspo.
Wherever you shop it from, it looks like the rattan craze isn’t going anywhere soon…
