After last night’s absolute stonker of a season finale (we won’t leave you any spoilers here, don’t worry), we felt for sure that ITV’s Unforgotten was done and dusted for good – but it’s just been announced that the crime drama has been renewed for a fifth season. Woah.
The show – which focuses on historic unsolved murder cases – has been going since 2015 and has four seasons under it’s belt, the most recent of which concluded yesterday (29th March) to a dramatic shock twist.
Whilst announcing that there would indeed be at least one more series, ITV said: “(It’s) become one of the best-loved and most critically acclaimed police dramas on TV” and that “Unforgotten would continue, in series five, with a new case”.
There’s no note on when the fifth season will air, but we’d guess not til at the very least 2022, maybe even 2023 as there was a three-year gap between seasons three and four.
Nicole Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar both star in the much-loved drama, and season four was the highest performing to date, with an average of 7.5 million viewers tuning in, marking a 26 per cent viewership increase from previous seasons.
The first three seasons of Unforgotten are on Netflix, whilst seasons three and four are both on ITV Hub. If you haven’t already seen it, but love things like Luther and Line of Duty, than we highly recommend…
