The Best Pre-Made Cocktail Cans For Outdoor Socialising

08/04/2021 by Hannah Gale

10 Min Read

With picnics, barbecues and al-fresco dining already in full-swing (albeit with a few extra layers on) thanks to a relaxing of lockdown rules, we thought now might be a good time to round up the best alcoholic beverages sold in cans from your nearby supermarkets.

Because sometimes you just want to close your eyes and pretend you’re sipping on frozen margs with the girls on a Greek island, rather than y’know, eating homemade couscous out of Tupperware from the muddy fields of your local park.

ALDI

Aldi have one of the biggest ranges of supermarket own-brand pre-mixed cocktails in cans, with prices on most of them starting at 85p a pop. Cocktails include: Passion Fruit Martini, Mojito, Rasperry Mojito, Summer Punch with Lemonade, Cosmo and Aperini Italian Spritz (their take on the infamous Aperol Spritz).

There’s also an impressive gin and tonic can collection, with flavours that include: Pink Gin & Diet Tonic, Pink G&T, Seville Orange and Persian Lime G&T, Rhubarb and Ginger G&T, London Dry G&T.

Shake Baby Shake

Probably the cocktail cans with the coolest packaging, Shake Baby Shake is available in Sainsbury’s, ASDA and Morrisons stores (and we’ve spied them in BP petrol stations too). They cost £1.50 each or can be bought in a pack of four for £5.50. Flavour options include: Watermelon Daiquiri, Tropical Daiquiri, Raspberry Mojito and Passion Fruit Martini.

FUNKIN Cocktails

These pre-mixed cocktails sell at £2 per 200ml can or you can buy larger packs online, direct from their website. Flavours available include: Espresso Martini, Peach, Bellini, Pina Colada, Passion Fruit Martini and Strawberry Daiquiri. They’re also available to buy by the can from most big supermarkets.

Sainsbury’s

Whilst Sainsbury’s stocks a whole load of other brands, their own ready-mixed can collection is relatively small. Their focus is on gin and tonics, with Gin & Rose Lemonade, Gin & Rhubarb & Ginger available alongside the standard and diet versions. There’s also Vodka, Lime & Soda, and Spiced Rum & Coke, as well as their own version of Aperol Spritz. Prices start at just £1.

ACE + FREAK

Not only do the ACE + FREAK cans look very hip and happening, the flavours sound divine too: Mint + Elderflower Spritz, Ginger + Lemongrass Mule and Watermelon + Cucumber Spritz. All drinks are made of pressed juices, puree and natural extracts (as well as spirits and wine). They’re not yet regularly available at any supermarket chains yet, but you can buy them online from around a fiver for three cans.

Marks & Spencer

M&S’s cocktail-in-a-can range is pretty infamous on the picnic scene, and for good reason (mostly that it’s fairly extensive and can be picked up at the same time as very excellent snacks). There’s everything from Passion Star Martini and Blackberry Gin Bramble to their newer Peach and Cherry Spritzers (which launched last year), there’s something for every cocktail drinker. They sell at £2.25 in-store only.

Miami Cocktail Co

Available at Waitrose, and costing £3 each (and also part of the 4 for 3 offer), it was the Miami Cocktail Co flavours that piqued our interest. Say hello to the likes of Paloma Spritz, Margartia Spritz and Mimosa Spritz: all fresh, light and organic. Perfect for s scorcher of a day.

All Shook Up

Homed exclusively at Tesco (we actually thought they were Tesco own-brand originally) and costing just £1.60 a can, we’ve got a lot of time for the All Shook Up range. There’s seven classic flavours (including Espresso Martini, Flamingo Colada and Peachy Punch), plus three newer spritzes: Pink Grapefruit & Lavender, Peach & Lychee and Watermelon & Mint.

MOTH

New in at Waitrose is MOTH, which only launched this year. There’s four high-quality mixed cocktails in the range: Negroni, Espresso Martini, Old Fashioned and Margarita. They sell at £3.99 each making them the most expensive in our round-up. We’ll let you know if we hunt them out and do a taste test over on Instagram stories…

ASDA

ASDA’s own-brand cans cost only £1 a pop (making them the second cheapest supermarket behind Aldi) and come in a lot of the same popular flavours. There’s Passionfruit Martini, Gin Bramble and Mojito – plus, the retailer also stocks other brands such as FUNKIN and Shake Baby Shake.
