Hands up if this time last year your WFH set up looked a lot more basic? From ironing boards masquerading as makeshift desks to the background of Zoom calls featuring a cameo from last night’s dishes, it quickly became apparent that if we were going to be working from home on the reg, then our workspace needed to at least slightly resemble an office. Even the novelty of working from bed – in theory, the dream, in reality, hello back pain – quickly wore off.
Whether you went all out and created a luxe outhouse office or simply invested in a decent desk or a laptop stand to sit on your dining table, inspiring WFH spaces soon took over from bouji utility rooms and pantries as the ultimate interiors status symbol. To celebrate the innovative office set ups created during lockdown, home improvement retailer Wickes has teamed up with TV Property Broadcaster Phil Spencer and Celebrity Home Designer and DIY Expert Ben Hillman to launch the Wickes 2021 Home Office Awards.
From wallpaper and paint to storage solutions and full-blown fitted home offices, Wickes has already helped tons of customers to transform their WFH set up, and now the brand’s Home Office Awards will help five home workers take their already amazing spaces to the next level. Made up of two rounds, the awards will see five shortlisted winners and one overall winner. Each shortlist award – more deets on those below – will be given to one entrant, along with a £150 Wickes voucher. The overall winner of the five will be crowned creator of ‘The Nation’s Best Home Office’ and will receive a whopping £1000 Wickes voucher for their next home office improvement project.
*Drumroll please* And the five shortlisted categories are:
The Minimalist Master Award – A WFH set up that makes the best use of minimal space, whether you’ve reworked your wardrobe, found sanctuary under the stairs or installed a genius pull-down desk.
Best Interior and Mindful Design Award – A space where style and practicality combine, fusing pops of colour and Instagrammable accessories with a sense of calm and wellbeing. AKA, your own personal zen den.
Cleaning Up in the Kitchen Award – The clue is in the name – a clever WFH space within your kitchen that doesn’t feature those aforementioned dirty dishes.
The Sensational Shed Award – A home office inside a summer house, shed or other external space. Essentially, the dream WFH set-up.
The Savviest Set-Up – Managed to create a functional and smart workspace on a shoestring? This is the category for you.
To enter, all you have to do is visit Wickes Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages and share a picture of you in your WFH space using the hashtag #WickesHomeOfficeAwards where Phil and Ben will pick the winners. Entries open at 07:00 on Monday 12th April and close at 23:59 on Monday 10th May. Entrants must live in the UK and be over 16. Full T&Cs can be found here. Good luck!
