Last year rumours were flying left, right and centre about an alleged Friends reunion and we were skeptical, mostly because there’s been so many rumours before and we didn’t want to get ahead of ourselves. Anyway, the big news today is that THERE IS AN ACTUAL AIR DATE, so i guess that means it’s definitely happening, eh?
The reunion episode of the most watched sitcom ever, will air in the U.S. later this month – on May 27th on HBO Max, to be exact, although we’re unsure if and when it will be available to watch in the UK.
We’ve got to dive straight in though and say, that although the show will feature all six of the main original cast members – Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc – it won’t be a new episode, rather it will be the stars reminiscing about their time on the show. Boo.
A bit like that Inbetweeners special that aired back in 2019, we guess.
And, whilst a lot of the plots and jokes from Friends don’t exactly translate well in 2021, we’re still excited to see the gang back together, especially as the reunion episode will be filmed from the set where all the original episodes were shot back in the nineties and noughties.
It’s been a whopping 17 years since the last episode of the New York-based sitcom aired (anyone else still remember where they were when they watched it?), and we can’t wait to see how the cast interact with each other nearly two decades on.
