24 Hours In The Life Of A Cam Girl

The latest interview in our 24 Hours In The Life Of career series? We’re speaking to Emmeline*, 39, who traded a job in finance and credit control for a role as a cam girl. She’s been in the industry for two years. This is her story…

“Finance was something I fell into. It was well paid and I went into it straight after school when a family member managed to get me into their place of work. I stayed there for over 12 years and then began starting a family with my partner. I decided that I didn’t want to balance a 9-5 office job with two small children so became a stay at home mum for the duration of pre-school and them starting school.”

“I managed to find a work-from-home finance role where I stayed for just over two years, during which time I researched and applied to be a cam girl. Redundancies started happening in my ‘vanilla’ job just as the pandemic was starting to take hold and I didn’t want to be in a position where I was left without a job. I had heard about cam girls in the past through documentaries and magazine articles and decided it was worth applying even if I couldn’t push myself to actually do it.”

7.45am: “I wake up around the same time every day and then drop the girls off at school just before 9am. I take the dog for a walk, come home and have a coffee and get myself ready in terms of my appearance – makeup, some nice lingerie etc and turn on my webcam ready for calls. I usually work from my bedroom/living room and make sure the camera is facing an aesthetically pleasing part of my flat.”

10am: “I switch on my cam and wonder whether it will be busy or if I should have just binned this morning off to go for a spot of retail therapy after the school run. But nope, I must stay focused. Monday is the last day to get my earnings in for payout in two weeks time from our agency boss. My first call is around 20 minutes after signing in and it’s a guy I’ve cammed with before who has a fetish for erotic suffocation. I don’t have to dictate to him very much but he likes to hear me direct him on what to do during the session. A lot of clients get off on simply hearing a woman’s strong and commanding voice. I find these kind of men are usually the high flyers, the ones who tend to work in management and they enjoy the release of being told what to do. The session lasts around half hour and results in some lovely feedback from the client.”

11am: “I have just bid to appear on the front page of the website. It is advised that you bid to appear so that you have a better chance of traffic to your cam. I realise I haven’t had any breakfast so make myself some dippy eggs and toast and sit eating them whilst waiting for another call – I’m half way through when it arrives. This is someone whose username I don’t recognise. They enter and I proceed to wear my smile and type “Hi darling”. There’s no small talk with this one …”Give me a twirl” he types back. When I don’t perform within five seconds he promptly leaves. I’m used to it. You get quite a few ‘pingers’, as we call them. Usually though they come in your cam room to look at you for two minutes and leave. I can’t complain, it still racks up the pennies.”

“I make on average £800 a month from what I do. I charge £1.49 per min chat for group mode (where anyone can join the room) and £2.85 per min for private mode (one-on-one chat). The agency I work for deducts 35% of my earnings but I still make good money considering the hours I put in.”

12pm: “A regular pops in and he is a big spender. Only a couple of nights ago he spent over £100 and we simply chatted. He loves to ask me about myself and what I enjoy both sexually and non-sexually. He seems quite a lonely soul so I try and offer the best kind of platonic ‘caring’ chat I can, given the fact it’s across a computer screen. He’s used to travelling a lot so lockdown has sent him a bit crazy. I’ve sat with him for almost an hour before while he shows me physical snapshots of his travels. I love chatting to him as he really is a genuinely lovely client but there have been times when the conversation isn’t particularly riveting. I’m always appreciative and grateful for the clients who expect nothing more than a good long chat, especially when I’m on my period.”

2pm: “I’ve got an hour to go before I need to pick my daughters up from school, and another regular pops in with his cheeky banter. He really is a charmer but again he’s lonely. He’s married but from what I can gather he stays with his wife for the sake of their small children. None of these guys wives realise what they do (or at least I don’t think they do) but I have come across many a man who likes the thrill of getting caught on cam with me or doing things that their wife could walk in on that would mortify them. I know this guy wants the whole show from me which is both a bit of a drag yet kind of exciting at the same time. You see, he’s quite good looking and his jokes could literally laugh me into bed given the chance. He gets to see all of me and has me masturbate for him while he does the same.

3pm: “A soon as he is gone I put my ‘toys’ back in my drawer, log off, pop back into my school run clothes and go to collect the children. I thoroughly enjoy what I do, as long as it’s busy and I know I’m making a decent amount for myself each week. My school mum friends think I still work as a finance clerk and that’s the way it will stay as I hate the fact that I would likely get judged. It’s not all glamorous though, because whilst it can be incredibly empowering, it can have a toll on your mental health. It can make you conscious of the way you look as you’re constantly looking back at yourself on screen and comparing yourself to other girls on the site.”

“‘I’m sure my husband would rather that I was in a normal day-to-day job but he knows this makes me happy, and that it means we don’t have to pay for after-school childcare. He also knows how important it is for me to make some money of my own. I love the interaction – I’m a people person and I love talking to all different types of men.”
