Firefly Lane has been our unexpected still-thinking-about-it-long-after-we-binged-it Netflix show of 2021, so we were thrilled to discover that finally – after what felt like months of waiting – it has been renewed for a second season. Hurrah!
The TV adaption of Kristin Hannah’s book of the same name focuses on the strong female friendship between Tully Hart (played by Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (played by Sarah Chalke) and is set across three different decades – the seventies, the eighties and current time which is the early noughties.
Katherine and Sarah announced the news we’d all been desperately waiting to hear via Twitter earlier this week. The pair – who have undeniably bloody fantastic chemistry as on-screen besties – both tweeted out a Q&A video to their followers, in which they answer fan questions via Zoom. One of the questions was about season two, which is when they revealed that it was officially confirmed.
They also addressed a fallout between their characters and said whilst they couldn’t confirm what had happened, they could give a clue that it was “family-related”.
Shooting for the next season will begin later this year, which means that 2022 will be the earliest we’ll be able to watch the second series and finally get answers to the questions (and cliffhangers) left unresolved in the first season.
And there’s every chance there could even be more seasons to follow, as there’s still plenty of uncovered material in the original book, plus there’s actually a follow-up to Firefly Lane which is called Fly Away.
You can find all ten episodes of the first season over on Netflix now – each episode is around 50 minutes long and make for fairly easy viewing. It’s got a similar vibe to the likes of This Is Us and Brothers & Sisters.
