Sally Rooney shot to the top of everyone’s reading pile when her iconic novel Normal People was released as a TV adaption on the BBC during lockdown (during April 2020, if you want to be specific) and received rave reviews – from pretty much everyone, us included.
So we were pretty hyped up to learn that the 30-year-old author’s latest novel will arrive in a month’s time, hitting bookstores on September 7th 2021.
Beautiful World, Where Are You will be Sally’s third novel, following Conversations With Friends (launched in 2017 and will be a BBC TV adaption next year), and Normal People which was released in 2018.
Alex Bowler, the publisher who acquired the book, describes it as: “A book of friendship and sex, art and faith, power and love. It absorbs you once again in the inner lives of characters with brilliant minds and aching hearts, while marking the next creative leap from a singular writer. The book scintillates with intelligence, empathy and, yes, beauty.”
The book has already started circulating around press and influencers and early reviews are good. Kate Spiers said via her Instagram account: “I loved it, I’m not a diehard SR fan but I’d say this is one of her best. Engaging (but slightly frustrating) characters, interesting thoughts on faith especially, and a narrative that anyone in their 20s and 30s will find reassuring and relatable.”
Looks like we’ll be pressing that pre-order button once pay day whirls around again…
