It’s the news we could only ever have dreamed of: our fave ethical chocolate brand and our fave budget supermarket are joining forces to create a delicious range of feel-good, taste-good and well-priced choco bars. BLOODY WONDERFUL.
The new bar is called ‘CHOCO CHANGER’ and will be available in Aldi stores this week as part of a SpecialBuys event (which we think means it’ll be in the middle aisles rather than the confectionery aisle, but don’t hold us to that).
There will be three flavours in the range: Salted Caramel, Hazelnut and 70% Dark Chocolate, and all will feature the same beige packaging with bright coloured fonts.
The chocolate is Fairtrade certified and 100% responsibly sourced and adopts all of Tony’s Chocolonely’s five sourcing principles to better support cocoa farmers.
A spokesperson for Aldi told Confectionery News: “The collaboration with Tony’s Chocolonely is a UK supermarket first, and we’re delighted to be able to offer this amazing product to our customers. By choosing the CHOCO CHANGER, shoppers are getting a delicious chocolate bar whilst also doing their bit to support hard-working cocoa farmers.”
“We’re committed to doing all we can to support the cocoa supply chain, ensuring transparency and fair pay for farmers in West Africa.”
Aldi is the first global discount retailer to join Tony’s Open Chain as a mission ally, which means they are working on transforming their cocoa supply chains and becoming sustainability frontrunners.
Let the ethical chocolate hunt commence…
