Renting in London has never exactly been affordable – it’s the reason people tend to leave the moment they have just the tiniest bit of job flexibility – but SpareRoom have just released a report which shows which postcodes are the cheapest when it comes to renting a room in the capital.
And – shock twist – it’s the east that comes out as the best place to bag a bargain when it comes to living quarters with E11, E13 and E6 all coming out as some of the cheapest places to rent a room in London.

SpareRoom also revealed the most expensive place to rent a room in London is SW7 (Kensington) with an average room price of £1,102 – more than double that of the cheapest.
The housing website took average monthly room rents across around 58,000 ads on their website during July, August and September 2021 to get their figures.
