These Are The Best Under £20 Wines In The World

15/12/2021 by Gemma Yates

At Christmas, it’s nice to treat yourself to a fancier-than-usual bottle of vino, but if (like us) you’re not exactly a connoisseur, it’s hard to know what’s worth splurging the extra money on. Thankfully, wine community Vivino has done the hard work for us, revealing the best under £20 wines in the world according to it’s 54 million wine-drinking members.

The Vivino Community Awards are the biggest industry awards vote by consumers instead of critics. Celebrating wine producers from around the globe, the winners are chosen based on hundreds of unbiased, straight-up reviews and ratings. “The Vivino Community Awards are chosen by the world’s most honest wine critics, our wine-drinking community, whose collective opinion, we believe, is more valuable than that of any one expert” Vivino founder Heini Zachariassen said. “These awards demonstrate that participation in the world of wine shouldn’t be limited to any one group of people. There’s a passionate and diverse community of wine lovers on Vivino eager to share their opinions and to find great wines to drink.”

If red wine is your go-to tipple, you’re not alone, with 18 reds featuring across the top 10 overall lists in ‘under £10’, ‘under £20’ and ‘over £20’ price brackets. Italian reds proved particularly popular, with Terre di Faiano Organic Primitivo 2019 taking top spot in the ‘under £10’ category and Depasso Leggermente Appassito Nero d’Avola 2019 coming in at no.1 in the ‘under £20’ category.

Partial to a Sauvy B? Bottles from Marlborough lead the way in the top 10 white wines under £20 list, but Domaine Tabordet Pouilly-Fumé 2019 took the top spot with a 4.5 Star Vivino Rating. When it comes to rosé, France reigns supreme, with eight bottles in the top 10 rosés under £20 – seven of them from Provence, including Whispering Angel, obvs.

Fancy a little something sparkly? It’s all about English fizz. Homegrown sparkling wines from Kent, Dorset and Cornwall dominated the top 10 sparkling wines under £30 category, but it was Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore that took the top spot.

If you’re after a total bargain, the Vivino Community Awards also included a top 10 wines under £10 category, which you can check out here. Keep scrolling to see the full list of under £20 (and under £30 sparkling) wines. Cheers!
