Those of us who have become dedicated slaves to Instagram over the past decade are about to be shocked to our core because there’s rumours afloat that the image-sharing app has a new update in the pipeline that means we’ll be order to re-order our grids. SAY WHAT?!
This will mean nothing to those who upload images freely without the fear of disrupting their Insta ~aesthetic~, but for those who plan their feed in advance, it could be an absolute gamechanger.
App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, tweeted out an image that appeared to show how the Instagram update could look. He said: “#Instagram is working on the ability to edit the profile grid allowing you to rearrange posts in any order you like.”
And, whilst the change could make it easier for people to create a profile that looks a certain way it also means grids will lose their automatic chronological order which could be problematic.

There’s no word as to if and when the rollout will happen, but head of Instagram Adam Mossori did confirm at the start of 2022 that they were trialing a new way for users to view their feed or homepage. Whilst we once saw everything in chronological order, it was then shifted to an alogorythym which meant that Instagram decided which content we saw.
Adam said on his Twitter account: “We’re starting to test the ability to switch between three different views on your home screen (two of which would give you the option to see posts in chronological order): – Home – Favorites – Following. We hope to launch these soon.”
A lot to take in. Could be exciting. Could be not exciting. All shall be revealed…
