This Is Going To Hurt was the read we all absolutely inhaled back in 2018. The medical memoir, by Adam Kay, gave a brutally honest insight into life as a junior doctor within the NHS which made you howl with laughter and want to sob relentlessly at the same time. It was brilliant. And sad. And tonight the long-awaited TV adaption hits BBC One.
Described as somewhere between a comedy and a drama (much like the book), it stars Ben Whishaw as Adam Kay who you’ll likely recognise as Q from the latest string of James Bond films. He’s also been in The Danish Girl and Paddington.
There are seven episodes in the adaption, each lasting 45-minutes. They will air weekly from this eve (Tuesday 8th February) and will be added to iPlayer at the same time.
For those of you who’ve never had the great pleasure of reading This Is Going To Hurt, it focuses on Adam Kay’s time working and training within the obstetrics and gynaecology department as he rises up the ranks from medical student to registrar.
We’ll join you on the sofa with a cuppa at nine tonight then…
