From Beauty Pie to The Ordinary, nothing excites us more than an affordable, game-changing skincare brand, and Byoma is the latest one sending ripples through the beauty world. Like it’s aforementioned counterparts, Byoma is something of an industry disruptor in that it focuses on something no other brand does: boosting and rebuilding the skin barrier.
Located in the outermost layer of the skin, the skin barrier – or stratum corneum – acts as a protective seal, shielding skin from external stressors like pollution and UV radiation and locks in moisture, keeping skin balanced and healthy. When it’s compromised, skin is more prone to irritation and redness.
If you’ve ever overdone it on the retinol, vitamin C or exfoliating acids and witnessed your skin erupt, it’s because you’ve damaged the stratum corneum. Applying potent ingredients and actives incorrectly or too often can ravage the skin barrier, leaving it looking a far cry from the claims on the packaging.
Created by the founder of cult beauty brand TanLuxe Marc Elrick, Byoma is the antidote to our overuse of aggravating ingredients. Dermatologist-approved and scientist-backed, boosting and rebuilding the skin barrier is the focus of each of the seven products in the range. “It’s barrier boosting skincare driven by science, powered by actives for the ultimate skin-compatible solution”, explains Marc.
Essentially, a stronger skin barrier is the secret to a glowing complexion, and Byoma’s products are enriched with a patented tri-ceramide complex combining fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides (fats that act like glue and hold the skin together, helping to keep it healthy and free from dryness) to help you achieve it. You’ll also find gentler formulations of your go-to ingredients, like brightening and protecting Vitamin C and pore-minimising niacinamide. Each product is alcohol, fragrance and cruelty-free and vegan and comes in dreamy pastel packaging.
Prices range from £9.99 – £13.99 and the range is already getting rave reviews at stockist Cult Beauty. The Moisturising Rich Cream, £13.99, scores 4.5 stars, with one reviewer saying, “After mucking up my skin barrier (a combination of retinol, exfoliants and bitterly cold weather) even water would sting my face. I used this moisturizer together with the Balancing Face Mist and my skin was instantly soothed. The redness and irritation disappeared after just two days. Love this stuff and will be trying more from the range. Would wholeheartedly recommend.” Another early fan favourite is the 5-star rated Hydrating Serum, £12.99. “Love Love Love What a great new product, very rich but not clogging. A few drops go a long way. 3 days of use so far and I am feeling like this could be my new best friend!” said one review.
Affordable, effective, science-backed skincare that gives you change from £20? We’ll definitely be adding Byoma to our beauty line up.
