My affinity for fake tan goes way back. As a teen, I’d spend my pocket money on bottles of Rimmel Sun Shimmer, slathering myself in the thick, sparkle-infused lotion for a sun-kissed glow that was anything but subtle. In my twenties, fake tan was a non-negotiable part of my beauty regime, applied religiously 2-3 times a week. I got a buzz from that biscuity-smell and my bathroom cabinet housed a collection that could rival the fake tan shelf at Superdrug.
I’m a night-time fake-tanner. I hate feeling sticky all day so I apply before bed and wash off in the morning. Of course, achieving bronzed limbs this way comes at a cost – constantly stained bed sheets. I’ve tried full-coverage pyjamas and socks (too hot), I’ve tried stain-free formulations (yet to find one that completely lives up to that promise), but what I haven’t tried, is the Next self tan bed protector sheet that’s gone viral on TikTok. Starring in a video that’s amassed 346.2k views and over 24k likes, it’s basically sheet-thin sleeping bag that you hook onto your pillow, slip inside then pull your duvet on top. If you’re an arms-out-of-the-covers sleeper, don’t worry – it even comes with a section to fold over the top of your duvet for full fake tan protection.
