What can we say, we love a bit of sofa porn. Cosy L-shaped ones, chic velvet ones, handy sofa-bed ones, statement pink ones – we’re always stuck in the mental debate about whether the time is quite right to splash out on a sexy new one. And, Habitat have just revealed exactly which sofa trend they’re expecting to be huge this year based on their current sales.
The sofa trend in question? Black velvet sofas. Habitat confirmed that sales of their black Jackson velvet sofa are up 80% in the last year – making it a surprisingly popular choice.
Their Jackson design comes in two, three or four seat options and is also available in blue, orange, green and burgundy velvet as well as tan and grey leather. Prices start from £400 for clearance styles.
A spokesperson for Habitat said: “The Jackson sofa, crafted from soft velvet fabric, is the perfect mix of Art Deco charm and mid-century modern clean lines.”
“Using statement furniture is an easy way to incorporate this trend into the home. You can always soften it with black and white striped cushions, or zone the sofa on a black and white rug to break things up.”
Is there anywhere else you can snap up a black velvet sofa? Well, Made.com have several styles, as does Swoon, but the majority come out more expensive than Habitat – which is also available via Argos and Sainsbury’s.
If there’s one thing we’re sure of it’s that black velvet sounds like an excellent choice for hiding red wine spillages…
