Set in 1960’s North Carolina, Where The Crawdad’s Sing is the beautiful novel that had so many of us utterly transfixed during lockdown. Me? I was late to the party and only fell for the bloody gorgeous tale (which, FYI, contains the ultimate fiction combo: a murder, nostalgic teenage love and a fierce female lead) earlier this month. Anyway, it was announced at the end of 2020 that the book – which is one of the best-selling of all time – would be made into a film adaption. It’s due for release this summer so we thought we’d round up what we know so far...
Filming wrapped at the end of last year and it’s all very exciting because Daisy Edgar-Jones (who was the lead in the Sally Rooney’s Normal People) takes the lead as Kya, AKA the Marsh Girl.
Her love interests are played by Taylor John Smith (who you might recognise from Sharp Objects) and Harris Dickinson who starred in the 2017 drama Beach Rats.

The whole adaption has been produced by Reese Witherspoon and will be hitting cinemas on July 15th 2022. But the juicy news doesn’t stop there because it also contains a new song from Taylor Swift called ‘Carolina’ which she wrote before the film was even filmed, apparently because she’s such a super fan of the book.
A trailer for the Delia Owens novel dropped earlier this week (you can see it here), and it looks wildly good. Time to get a date in the diary for a girls’ dinner and cinema night…
